Healthcare consumers will hear more and more in the coming months and years about the quality of care in hospitals. Two publications issued earlier this decade, To Err Is Human (2000) and Crossing the Quality Chasm (2001) made clear to the healthcare-consuming public that hospitals need to do more than ensure that their physicians have the appropriate credentials and up-to-date facilities and technology. The publications underscored that hospitals also need to produce the quality results the public deserves. New federal pay-for-performance initiatives being established later this year provide a solid national mandate for healthcare quality.

The results are more than measurable. They’re remarkable. When we dedicated an entire hospital unit solely to orthopedics, we had one goal: give western Montana the best overall orthopedic outcomes, from straightforward outpatient procedures to complex total-joint replacements. We’ve achieved that goal, and more. Simply put, we lead the region, and were ranked #4 in an independent national survey of 100 hospitals. Our advanced physicians, staff, and facilities—all devoted entirely to orthopedics and supported by the region’s leading rehabilitation program—come together for outstanding surgical technique, individualized pain management, and faster recoveries, period. After all, this is Community Medical Center. Where the extensive resources of a regional leader are here for your complete, comprehensive care, from day one.

Missoula, Mont. – During a recent visit to the Rehabilitation Institute of Montana at Community Medical Center in Missoula, Mont., U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., took little time to point out his goals for the healthcare provided to America’s wounded war veterans. “We need to ensure that the men and women who fight for this country and are wounded in battle receive the very best care when they return home,” Tester said during the tour. “I think partnerships between the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs and facilities like this one are key to ensuring that happens.”
