Obstetric and Newborn Services: More babies are born at Community Medical Center than any other hospital in Montana. CMC is the hospital of choice for many families because family-centered care is accentuated in obstetric and newborn services. All family members are welcome at CMC as they celebrate the arrival of their newest member.

At CMC, there are birthing rooms for the labor-and-delivery process and post-partum rooms for mother and baby care after the birth. If there is a need adjacent to the OB Unit is a designated Caesarean birth suite that’s kept ready and available at all times. Rooming-in with baby is provided during a mother’s stay, and family/infant bonding is encouraged.

Breastfeeding is promoted by a knowledgeable staff and full-time lactation specialists. The highly experienced nursing staff are trained in numerous areas, including Electronic Fetal Monitoring, the Neonatal Resuscitation Program, ACLS and the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program. Many nurses hold current certifications in high-risk obstetrics. The newborn nursery is staffed by a NRP-certified nurse, who attends each delivery to provide immediate care to a newborn.

All Newborns are included in the Hearing Screening Program and the Child Seat Safety Program, which is staffed by certified child passenger safety technicians. Newborns’ photographs are also posted on the CMC website for family and friends to see if parents choose to use the E-cradle service.

One of CMC’s main goals is to help parents feel comfortable in caring for their newborn babies. An Infant Care Class is offered each day, giving parents hands-on time caring for their new baby before they leave for home.
